Sanctuary Non 12 Step Recovery for Sustainable Life Change
Welcome to The Sanctuary non 12 Step Recovery for Sustainable Life Change
“From the depths of despair and hopelessness, I now live a life of deep connection, love, meaning and profound purpose.”
-- Dean Taraborelli, Founder The Sanctuary at Sedona.
My name is Dean Taraborelli and I founded The Sanctuary at Sedona to be a place of healing and permanent life change. I want you to know that if you are stuck in the cycle of any self-destructive behavior, I understand. No matter how your loneliness and despair expresses itself, whether substance abuse, anxiety, depression, prescription drug dependence, eating disorders, or a multitude of other obsessive compulsive behaviors, they are all symptoms of the same underlying disconnection.
My story is not unique. I simply share it with you to connect with that part of you that may need encouragement, motivation and hope for a fullfilling life, free of self defeating behaviors that no longer serve you. No matter what your addiction or condition, you can heal and be free, forever. You can move beyond the symptoms and diagnosis of your condition into wellness. I know it is possible because I have lived it, and The Sanctuary is the result.
My Story

I have spent 30 years of my life struggling with substance abuse in various forms. I come from a middle class background with no apparent reason to choose such a difficult path. What started as a simple prescription for pain medication ultimately led to a $200,000 a year drug habit. I have lived through two near death experiences and countless substance related hospitalizations.
Despite all the gifts I had in my life; a successful career, a loving and supportive family and material possessions, my feelings of emptiness and disconnection were unbearable. On the outside I looked like a responsible, well-adjusted and productive member of society, while on the inside I was slowly dying.
I have real expertise in being on the treatment side of rehab centers, both 12 step and non 12 step programs. I have attended and worked hard in some of the most well regarded addiction treatment institutions in the country, some more than once. I have been in over 10 inpatient drug rehabilitation centers, participated in 3 inpatient extended care programs, numerous outpatient and intensive outpatient programs, years of private therapy, support groups, and 12-step programs. In my desperation I underwent a risky, painful, and controversial procedure known as medically-assisted rapid opiate detoxification and a multitude of other medication protocols. I had wide exposure to many chemical addiction treatment modalities and believe I had tried just about everything to solve my problem. While many of these worked temporarily on the symptoms of the problem, I was unable to achieve any real sustainable change.
In active addiction and in treatment, I have known and interacted with hundreds of others struggling with addiction and depression, many of whom are no longer alive. Many people I have known have searched and worked toward a solution, only to relapse again and again, never achieving sustainable change. Top treatment centers in the nation show staggering rates of recidivism. Prescription anti-depressant drug use has increased a dramatic 75% in the last decade with 27 million Americans currently using anti-depressants. The cycle seems hopeless.
Vision for the Sanctuary
I had a vision of a different kind of care facility. As I reflected on the thousands of hours of conventional treatment and my other therapeutic experiences, it occurred to me that the focus was on symptom management rather than on core healing. It is commonly accepted that chemical abuse, depression, and related diagnoses are symptoms of some underlying psychological pain or trauma. Yet, the conventional medical system has been largely unsuccessful in assisting patients to heal these underlying causes. There needs to be a more comprehensive paradigm in the treatment of mind, body, and spirit than is presently available in today’s medical model.
My own transformation into wellness was deeply rooted in the tradition of energy medicine, vibrational chemistry, noetic biology and quantum physics. To heal at the core cellular level, you must work at the level of energy, as energy organizes all matter including sickness in the mind and body. These techniques have been known and used worldwide for millennia and have just recently become more accepted in Western culture. Modern scientific evidence continues to validate the underlying theory, effectiveness, and profound power of energetic healing. Because of my own dramatic and profound healing experience and life transformation, I was inspired and called to create a place where others can do the same. That place is The Sanctuary.
If you are reading this, I can promise you that you are much more than whatever limiting beliefs you have about yourself or medical diagnoses you have been labeled. You do not have to be an addict, depressed, sick or simply living a life that is less than the one you know you can live. I share this from my own experience. While I once was caught in the cycle of self destruction, I no longer consider myself an addict. I have healed at a cellular level and my body no longer recognizes and processes chemicals in the addictive way. I have healed from my addictions, transcended my limiting beliefs and stepped onto the path of my highest, most present, vital, and inspired self.
My life is now amazing. I live and work in one of the most powerful and beautiful places on earth. I am fulfilling my life’s purpose. I am surrounded by loving family, friends and community. I have found my true love. I am on my soul’s journey. We will help you get there too. If I can do it, so can you.
